St. Mary's Organ Restoration Project
History
The Organ at St Mary was built by the famous Aeolian Skinner Organ Company of Boston, Massachusetts, and installed during the final days of peace before World War II, in 1939. It was specially built for this church using the finest materials, equal to a Steinway piano. For 80 years it has added beauty to special Masses and Holidays, been there to comfort and mourn at funerals, rejoice and celebrate at weddings. It has been the voice of St Mary's through many generations thanks to the hard work and sacrifice of those who have gone before us. It is their vision we hear today.
As with all things after 80 years of faithful and loyal service, the parts that are leather are worn, and the console needs its technology updated in order to serve the church another 80 years and beyond. The organ is on sound condition and of excellent quality and only needs the work to restore its beauty and continue to sing out. If replaced, it would be far more expensive and of different quality compared to our organ.
There are 2,016 pipes in 34 different categories that can go from a whisper to a roar using such sounds as Trumpet, Flute, and Strings. Through our Adopt-A-Pipe Program, we offer a unique opportunity to honor a special person or event, or to make a lasting memorial to a deceased loved one.
